It’s question time!
Author: Cameron | Category: GolfThis is your chance to ask me any golf question you’d like. If you’ve got a burning question about improving your golf then ask me.
Here’s a few guidelines:
- Keep it on topic. Golf learning and how to improve your golf is what I’m the best at. E.g. “how do I learn to trust my swing under pressure”.
- Keep it short. You should be able to keep it down to a sentence or two.
- If you have more than one question choose the most important. Don’t be greedy
- Make it relevant to you.
- Read the other questions first so there’s no doubling up.
- Be sure to include your details - first name or nickname will be fine.
That’s it. Pretty simple. I’ll collate all the information and get it back to you in some shape or form. (read: I haven’t quite worked this bit out). This will be a powerful and useful finalised product and you’ll all be able to get a copy FREE of charge.
Get to it, ask your questions below.
P.S. I’m getting in first and asking the most likely question that I’ll receive.

Cameron here,
I’d like to know how to increase the length of my drive by 15 metres.
Thanks

My drives start off straight down the centre, then about 3/4 into the flight the side spin kicks in. how do i correct this.
January 20th, 2009 at 8:55 am
how do i stop hitting it fat.
January 20th, 2009 at 8:55 am
I am using your quick assessment putting technique along with a only wrist stroke with my hand (left) on my right leg. My last round, before the snowstorms hit I had 26 putts. Putting is great. I am working on the offseason to add 15 yards to my drives. I want the swing to increase from 100mph to 105 to 107mph. Doing it with weight training, better shoulder turn and less non-essential movement. Randy

How do you relax in the opening wholes so that those first swings are your natural swings? I find that I am tense even with regular playing partners and by the time I loosen-up the damage is already done.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:28 am
Just started playing golf. Biggest problem is actually making contact with the damn ball. Why am I making so many air swings?
January 20th, 2009 at 9:46 am
How do I improve my level of concentration during a round. Eg. 18 holes = 2 birdies, 9 pars, 4 bogies and 3 double bogies.

January 20th, 2009 at 10:34 am
hi cameron
i keep pulling my iron shots, especially my short irons straight left. how can i correct this?
January 20th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Keen to hear your comments on questions from - Cameron, Keith & especially Lyle, as my card often looks like his due to a lapse in concentration.I suspect I may lose my focus after drinks at the Half way house.!

January 20th, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Hi Cameron
I am trying to guage my pitch shots better using the clock system. How far do I go back for thirty metres and fifty meters?
January 20th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
how do you know that your swing is good enough to go automatic
January 20th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Cameron
On the down swing what is a trigger I can use to have the sensation of swing like i’m throwing stone to skim
over the water:in that way i will not come over the top
on my downswing.
January 20th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
I know I should keep my wrist flat at the top of my backswing to prevent the club face being opened at impact, which I do. But how do I keep my wrist flat and still generate enough power to increase my distance as I’m only driving 175 metres at most.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Hi when teeing up Ive been told the ball should be level with the back of my right foot, then other people say it shold be level with the back of my left foot, which is it??
January 20th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
I appear to hit most of my shots left of target. This affects my short game as well. Any thoughts ?

I’ve been working to emulate Hogan’s swing and am getting a lot more distance but am having trouble ‘laying off the club’ to avoid slicing. How can get my left wrist to relax in my downswing?
January 21st, 2009 at 6:25 am
I can regularly get from tee to near the green in regulation then take another 4 or 5 shots to get on & get it down. Yip putting is starting to come under control after reading your advice but greenside chipping is a disaster. Help!!

January 23rd, 2009 at 7:37 am
Hi
I have been trying to play on auto, hold my focus (in the zone) and enjoy the game all at the same time and not result orientated. How do you resolve this.

Can you explain in detail how the new djustable drivers have LESS effective loft when the face is opened up? I struggle with a low hook and need to hit the ball higher and a little more right but the R9 and the STR8 fit Nike say that the effective loft goes down when the face is opened up. Is this because of an odd angle in which the ferrule enters the hosel? or is it a reverse logic physics thing like verticle gear effect or something?

How can I train myself to maintain a square clubface throughout my swing? I seem to really be closing my face so at the top the face is up to the sky.Is there a training aid that you might recommend? I need to square the clubface so I can add some height to my shots and avoid LOW LEFT shots.

Hi Cameron, Love all the questions and cant wait for the answers. Then all my questions will be answered.
February 3rd, 2009 at 12:43 am
do you take the club head to the outside keeping the
club head in front of you? Or do you have it in line
with the toes on the back swing to get more width.
And do you straighten you back arm right away to
produce more power?
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:54 am
how do you inprove your concentration on the course, how do you play without fear.
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:45 am
What’s the main source of power in the golf swing, hips, shoulders, or forearms? When I see Chuck Heidler hit it 300 yards while he’s riding a unicycle, I think it’s forearms. Is that the strength area to work on for more distance?
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:38 am
How do you control the height of shots, particularly when hitting into a strong headwind?
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 am
Hi Cameron, How do you visualize the longer parts of this game IE: Tee shots and long irons? I seem to be able to do this well with putting and short chips but struggle when looking down a fairway with no specific target in mind other than hitting the fairway?
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:25 am
Hi,Cameron. How can you stop what I call back nine syndrome. After blitzing the front nine my game is suddenly a struggle and it can become a total battle just to get a par.Eg,club championships played the 1st nine 3 over for the 4 rounds then played the back nine 23 over.Hand me a noose please.Luckily I have no hair to rip out.Regards,Michael.

Cameron: I still hit drives with a partial or full slice from time to time. I want to stop this and just hit reasonably straight,ie 5 deg either side of the rhumb line of tee to pin. Cheers Bruce

I would like to hit the ball with a lower fight path - any suggestions.
Cheers

Every now and again I mishit my 3 fairway wood. Mostly I manage to hit it straight and a reasonable distance for me. Any ideas Cameron?
February 4th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Is it necessary to have a full wrist cock at the top of the backswing to gain max. effect?
February 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Hi Michael M,
Only one thing to say ….
I share your pain, I play of 24 handicap & make some holes ( normally the hard one’s) look so easy & then butcher the easy one’s. If one more person says I should play of low teens I am going to scream !!!!

Hi Cameron,
I’ve read the questions to date and find many of them relevant to my circumstances. I desperately try to follow your advice to the letter and have found that it certainly pays off. However, I have suddenly developed a horrendous slice that creeps into my game at the most inopportune times. This has left me nervous and very uncertain as to the direction of each shot. I play on a heavily tree lined course and the slice wreaks havoc with my score.
Regards,
David

Cameron,
when practising on the course how many shots should you hit, in a comp you only get one chance. I find that if you multiple shots you usually get better, what’s the key to hitting a good shot the first time. I practise the pre-shot routine and hit the ball reasonably well (10 handicap)I would like to half my handicap by Xmas 09.

hi cameron recently i started my round quickly making a blistering start getting to 2 under i then preceeded to have a three putt bogey folowed by a four putt double.after some scrambling i got it back to finish one over my handicap 7 my question is how to stay in the moment and stop thinking about the round?

Thanks Brent N.
Nice to know I’m not the only one.

I know how you feel about the shots as I’ve got a handicap of 12 which I would like to reduce it to 6. In a practice round I generally hit the one ball but if I feel I’m struggling with a certain part of my game, I set up normally and actually hit another ball with my eyes closed to promote the subconscious mind to take over. Hope this helps

Hello Cameron,
Have read the E-Book and found it very enthralling.
It capsulates the way I,ve always played my golf.
What do you recommend is the next step for me since reading your E-Book?
Look forward to your comments.

RayC
